For many Liberian women, especially in rural areas, financial independence is a daily challenge. But with a little buzz and a lot of courage, beekeeping is changing that.

Breaking Barriers:
Traditionally, beekeeping was male-dominated. But today, more women are picking up the smoker and veil. ABEL’s “Women for Honey” program trains women in all aspects of modern beekeeping—from hive construction to harvesting and marketing.

More Than Income:
For women like Sarah in Nimba County, beekeeping isn’t just a source of income—it’s empowerment. She now runs her own honey brand and teaches other women in her cooperative. Beekeeping gives them a way to contribute financially, lead in their communities, and pass on valuable knowledge to their daughters.

Community Ripple Effect:
When women earn, families benefit. Beekeeping helps mothers send children to school, invest in food, and even save for emergencies.

Women are proving that beekeeping is not just about tradition—it’s about transformation. With the right support, the hive becomes a hub for independence.
